Polical thought dump

We just had an election, but unlike most elections where we get the discussion of high minded ideas, lofty goals, and bright futures this one was tarnished by the constant undercurrent of hatred for OTHER. Now while some may have only focused on the other of RACE/SKIN COLOR, there was also the other of GENDER, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS, and SOCIAL STRATA. I do not claim to be any kind of political wonk, but I do enjoy the political process in my country except for this year. Oh there are plenty of times when I have had political discussions with people where I have had to face, debunk, or shout down ridiculous stereotypes or mental infections that people may have had, I just never had to look at what should be a serious situation and see it reflected at the highest levels.



I don't know about you, hell maybe I should blame it on the pedestal I used to put the positions of our political leaders in Washington(or who strove to BE a leader in) D.C. on but in my mind you had to be an intelligent person, who could grasp many different angles of a subject, and be able to comport yourself within a reasonable understanding of the facts to be elected to the highest offices in the land. Now yes, depending on your city or township maybe on the local level you could be a bit of a hack, curmudgeon, ne'er do well, or sociopath and get away with it but once you tried to get to DC and had to convince many different locales of your suitability for office that just wouldn't fly.

Then 2010 happened, and I saw some of the angriest, un or under educated, happy to live in la la land folks there ever could be elected to the congress and senate of the United States of America. In this country your religion is just that YOURS, but SCIENCE is not up for discussion. We have had quite a few legendary Scientific minds in this country and as such turning our backs on science is also turning our backs on some of the things that make us great.

Granted unlike religion science is not an all or nothing proposition but it also isn't something that suffers cherry picking well. Science is about the process by which you get the results as much as it is about the results, so if you accept a process for 5 things, just because thing 6 doesn't work in your favor doesn't mean you pretend it doesn't matter. But we have seen a lot of that lately. Hyperbole has gone from something you see just before a fight, between young children blowing off steam, or between two people who don't like each other too well(unless they are professional wrestlers and then it's just a good script). You don't usually see it between politicians to the tune of Witches, commies, and nazis.
