The power of YOU

It's a rainy night in some dark, desolate looking locale, floating on the breeze is a song "sweet dreams are made of these" in a slow almost pained moan. We are taken into a room two younger girls, one blonde one raven haired sit clutching each other as a man comes in and shakes his head. The blonde runs into a bedroom to pull the cover off the now departed soul, a female and she looks a a tall balding chubby male who seems to be cheerful at the passing of this woman.

"Sucker Punch"


The man is the Step father of the two girls and while they mourn their mothers passing he seems ready to enjoy his new life, that is until he opens the will. See he was all smiles and cheerful before he opened that envelope I guess he thought that in his time of wooing and before her death (dunno if it was untimely or not) he was about to make out like a fat rat, but the last will and testament reads "To my two daughters", in a rage he smashes his bottle of alcohol into the fire place. His is irate, I'm guessing he had plans for this dough, and all of the sudden an eerie gleam is in his eye he storms up to the blondes room and opens the door. Razor in hand I guess he was gonna go ahead and take care of his business, but the young Baby Doll(and what will be her name for the rest of the picture) fights back scratching his face and pushing him out of the room. I guess finding her feistier then expected he then heads to her younger sisters rooms Baby Doll now looking on in fear and locked in her room climbs out of her window in the rain to try and save her sister. The young lady has escaped past her wicked step father and locked herself into a closet.

The stepfather is franticly kicking at the closet door, trying to break it down. Hurry Baby Doll your sister does not have much time. The door breaks down and the step father goes for the young girl, a shot is fired breaking the light bulb in the closet and hitting a pipe as he stands there is Baby doll holding a gun, he backs away.  Hoping she does not shoot him, Baby Doll runs to the closet to grab her sister but alas, blood is on her hands her sister is dead. She shoves the gun in her step fathers face and he cowers for mercy. She runs off to her mothers grave, the stepfather shows up with the police in tow. With a sob story about a wild step daughter distraught at the death of her mother who "accidentally" kills her sister. He takes her to an insane asylum there in vermont. And our story begins.

The world of Sucker Punch takes place in the minds of 5 girls Baby Doll, Rocket, Sweat Pea, Amber and Blondie. It seems that her father has brought babydoll here to this insane asylum because Blue, the Director(and master of the key) has made an arrangement with him. For $2000 he will have the lovely Baby Doll Lobotomized in 5 days, forging the signature of the psychiatrist on duty and ending all of his problems. I mean you cannot be found out by the police if the only other witness to the crime's mind is completely gone now can you. Before her fateful day Baby Doll notices a few things

1. Blue holds the key to every door in the asylum
2. In Blue's office is a map of the grounds
3. a sign over the main security desk "all doors open in case of fire" and an orderly who carries a lighter
4. the cook is rather careless with his knives and has spares

Subconsciously a plan is hatched. I guess as a matter of coping while she goes about these tasks her mind slips first into a fantasy world where her and the other 4 ladies are dancers in a sort of a burlesque club where blue is the club owner pimp and the head psychiatrist is the dance instructor. To start this world her step father(in the garb of a priest this time) drops her off in blues care and they see Sweet Pea on stage in the Lobotomist's chair about to endure Baby Doll's unfortunate unwanted fate. It seems she is an orphan being sold into this servitude to be met by a "High Roller" in 5 days for her "deflowering". after spitting in the priests face she is given a tour of the grounds by Rocket, Sweet Pea's sister, and after a traumatic experience they form a bond. Baby Doll is brought into the Dance studio and told to dance to the music, at first she stands there stiff almost terrified and after walking over the Instructor whispers words of encouragement into her ear, the music is started again, at first it seems nothing will happen and then out of no where a snowflake lands on her eye lash.

We are whipped to what looks to be a Japanese(or other asian) Mansion in some snowy hills, baby doll walks up the steps to see a grey haired old man at the top of a raised dais. In front of the old man is a Katana, a gun, a few extra clips and a bunny something or other. He tells her to esape she will need 5 things: a map, fire, a knife and a key. the fifth thing will require a great sacrifice but when she figures it out it will also be an ultimate victory. She questions him about the 5th thing as he walks her out the door but he tells her no more, she turns and sees 3 Samurai figures standing before her "Oh and another thing, Defend Yourself". This starts the wild action in this story, and there is a lot of wild action. After an adrenaline pumping battle (in single combat, they are giant monsters but they are Samurai giant monsters) against the 3 giant Samurai Baby Doll "wakes up" back in the dance studio. After conveying the escape plan to her associates each dance inspired trance that Baby Doll gives takes herself and others into is accompanied by the other girls. There is a battle in WWI England(I say one because they keep saying the Kaiser not the Fuhrer), some mystical realm against a dragon, and against the backdrop of some futuristic world with a ringed planet in the skies a futuristic train. There is a lot of pulse pounding action in this movie, plenty of bullets flying(including in the dragon fight), explosions and martial arts action these 5 young ladies seem to be out of there minds but fully skilled in butt kickery.

I liked this movie the visuals were great the action was well paced. Even if I was a little jaded about the flit from WWI to the Dragon Palace(I have no problem with the premise of stealing a map from the Kaiser, or fire from a dragon, just the order, slightly) the way the story seemed to progress the ladies feeling empowered and invincible was nice. Now that is not to say EVERYBODY had such rave reviews about the movie I went to see Sucker Punch with my baby brother Ero Kitsune(his previously mentioned net persona) and he had a slightly different view:

This Movie should be called "Uncle Touchy's Pleasure Palace", due to the excessive amount of under age booty shaking. Prepubescent white girls, an important point of fact baby bro is an AVID anime watcher, running around scantily clad gyrating to music is in poor taste.

Now Kitsune loves such great anime's as:Bleach, Naruto, Flame of Recca, Cho something, GTO, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Inukami!. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with these animes, but most of them have girls running around in either school girl uniforms or the equivalent of a school girl uniform. So I did get on him about protesting a little too much, he also admitted that you should go see Sucker Punch at least one good time. He thought it was good just didn't like some of the way the sequences were put together with the Uncle Touchyish(yes this is a family term that I don't know where he got it from but we now use, probably adult swim "Damn you cartoon network" no I'm playing I think it's hilarious) feel to the dancing before the switch over to the action sequences(even though you never really see Baby Doll dance she just starts to sway a little and then scene change after a close up on her face). So he likes it, but felt a little dirty afterwards dude to the amount of petite white flash be shoved into his eye(I love my brother I really do, I can't make up stuff like this).
