Young Justice, really DC fans? pt.1

I know my first blog in who knows how long and it's title is a question. Yup and shamelessly at that, I am a well documented Marvel Maniac I have been one for well over 3 decades. So after seeing the Opus that is The Avengers I have heard something coming from many DC fans that has to be considered laughable at best. They feel that DC's response to Marvel making a movie about their PREMIER super hero team should be to make a Live Action movie about the 3rd Robin's super team.

Yes I am calling you out, I should do this on wordpress so I can curse but no, I really do want to call you out here on the Ponderings. The Avengers is about Earth's Mightiest Heroes(in the Marvel U), that means their best of the best. The roster: Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Hawekeye, and Black Widow with SOME involvement by Nick Fury and his buddies at SHIELD. Now yes there are plenty of Roster changes that come along with The Avengers, quiet a few team members that I wish had been able to make it into the first movie but you have to go with characters people know about. Black Widow was introduced in Iron Man 2, Hawkeye was introduced in Thor(not as Hawkeye but as Clint Barton Hawkeye's real name, and yes I did a huge girl cheer when I saw him grab the bow in Thor). Now for me Hawkeye was the guarantee that yes an Avengers movie is coming, Hawkeye really doesn't exist anywhere else in the Marvel Universe except for in Avengers titles, so you see Hawkeye you know Marvel is about to bring out the big guns. And they did to what is apparently going to be Box Office Record DESTROYING results(again it's THE AVENGERS yes they could have screwed this up royally, but something tells me Disney, Marvel and Joss Whedon wanted this one badly) so if I were to bring out my big guns I would of course expect you to bring out yours.

And DC Fans say what "Young Justice" to which folks at the Marvel U bowl over and laugh insanely. Now as a comic fan I am not laughing because I have no clue who Young Justice is, because I do the ORIGINAL comic Young Justice was Robin(Tim Drake), Kid Flash/Impulse(Bart Allen), SuperBoy(Kon el OR Conner Kent depending on which iteration of the DCU you are following),  2/3rds of the DC big three's side kicks/younger iterations and a young speedster. It started out as the 3 on a mission together where they help The Justice League on a mission, rescue a fellow young metahuman(Secret she doesn't remember her name at first) and go on about the day. They then get some girl power in the form of Arrowette(Cissie Jones) And Wonder Girl(Cassie Sandsmark) as well as The Mysterious young lady The Secret that they rescued in issue #00. Some maybe be giving me the Scooby Doo Huh look right now, because that is not who you think of when you say Young Justice right? You are thinking of Robin(Dick Grayson ), Kid Flash(Wally West), Superboy, Aqualad(not the son of Aquaman by the way), Artemis(not Arrowette somebody completely different) and Miss Martian (supposedly Jonnz neice from Mars) from Cartoon Network . Which is placed in a slightly different DC universe from the main one(I am not gonna rag them on this since Marvel has one million different dimensions too upon which to tell a different story. Of course that was the first two seasons roster, because it seems I have a lot of catching up to do the CURRENT ROSTER looks like somebody decided to go all mash up and add Nightwing(Dick Grayson has passed on the robin persona to Tim Drake, what no Jason Todd at all pfft just as bad as skipping Tim over on his own team to begin with), Batgirl(the original Barbara Gordon), BumbleBee(Protege and lab assistant to the Atom so I guess they are bringing in other Justice League heroes which I am not against), Robin(Tim Drake, not yet Red Robin, though he has had his costume slightly changed to be closer to those colors), Miss Martian is still there(M'gann), Blue Beetle(He has his own comic but I guess they aren't ready to try him for a full cartoon yet), And Beast Boy(I'm bot going to say it, not at all, not a peep). So yeah that is the current roster of Young Justice Invasion on cartoon network, interesting line up to say the least.

Now as Young Justice did not make it into the DC New 52 transition I will tell you that what they did was switch Young Justice with the Teen Titans roster, The Teen Titans are now Kid Flash, Skitter, Red Robin(Tim Drakes CURRENT Gotham Iteration), Cassie(Don't call me Wondergirl), Bunker, Solstice(who has powers very similar to The Secret). Superboy has not COMPLETELY joined yet, since this is a restart they are building up to him becoming a member of the team. Of the issues I have read it has been pretty good, Bart has the new armor just like he had in Young Justice, Cassie Sandsmark has yet to full explain how she got her Gauntlets similar to Wonder Womans(no connection to Donna Troy so her previous reasons for not wearing the Wonder Girl costume has been erased with a complete distaste for the Wonder Girl name), Red Robin is secretive and driven, and they are on a crusade against N.O.W.H.E.R.E an organization out to round up and control young metahumans. So yeah I know EXACTLY who Young Justice/The Teen Titans DC New 52 are, I also know they are not the answer to Marvel's Avengers.

If it is DC fans let me tell you how this is about to go, WB/DC releases Teen Titans 2/Young Justice as the answer to The Avengers and Disney/Marvel Release one of MANY  young Super teams they have at their disposal in the Marvel Brain trust: Power Pack, Disney should love them it was a team of siblings given super powers by an alien, who then ran around for a while having super adventures for years. That Screams Disney, a bunch of kids running around having super powered adventures(and what do you know NOT unlike Young Justice/The Teen Titans). Then you have The New Mutants, up and coming X-gene possessing kids running around trying to learn how to use their powers as well as saving the world every once in a while. Then of course if you do New Mutants you can do X-force, which gives you Cable, Domino, Shatterstar and *Gasp* Dead Pool(Dead pools first official appearance was in X-force ). And wait, there's more Let's say that maybe Disney Marvel wants to go with a slightly cockier team, some heroes trying to prove themselves who don't really fully attach to another team then you have the New Warriors, a bunch of Early 20's heroes from differing back grounds. That's not too bad right only 4 super teams that marvel can bring up, I said more not 1 more.

You can then go to The Runaways a group of super power teens who find out that their parents are all super villains working for some other dimensional all powerful beings. You want to talk about insanity how about going from Normal Lives hanging out with a bunch of kids you can hardly stand to having to fend for yourself because now you all have the bond of your parents being magical, mad scientist, mutant or regular human villains? I didn't find out about this comic until mid last year but every one I read I loved. What if you are enamored with the name YOUNG, what about the Young Avengers? Wait you didn't know Marvel had it's own Avengers junior off shoot, for shame: Wiccan, Hawkeye(a young female not Clint Barton), Hulkling(no not a child of the hulk he is actually a half skrull. But thanks to his half breed status he has super strength and shape shifting abilities), Patriot(his grand father was the guy they tested the serum on BEFORE they gave it to Steve Rogers), Speed, Stature(Daughter of Ant Man Scott Lang), Vision(yeah umm look this on up yourself).

That has to be it right, pffft this is Marvel Super teams are their pleasure. Yes the Avengers West Coast could be considered a second bite at the Avengers apple but technically they were their own separate team(and later became Force Works) What about Excalibur the british Super team headed by Captain Britain(you only though there was one Captain in the Marvel U, so precious). Not unlike the Avengers they too have had a revolving door style membership, currently defunct they sometimes had former X-men as members, Former Super Villains, British heroes all their own, some dimensionally displaced heroes or villains. It was just crazy, but a fun kind of crazy that place many different parts of the stateside Marvel U together in ways that developed some pretty fun and crazy adventures. That has to be it right, this can't be a steam roller effect that bad, I mean what next are we gonna throw some Canadians at DC, you know I haven't mentioned Alpha Flight yet(yes they are Canadian), or the Inhumans, What about X-factor(what you think there was only the X-men and X-force? Marvel has as many teams if not more than DC).

So what am I trying to say basically hammering home all of Marvel's super teams:Either Warner Brothers/ Detective Comics gets off it's butts and makes the Justice LEAGUE movie(Not Justice Society, nobody will care about Justice Society thus why they have never had a cartoon of their own to speak of) or else this will get ugly QUICK. You don't put your third, fourth or fifth tier team against the other guys best and just hope for a small piece of the pie. When DC was ruling the roost for 20 years with Superman and Batman movies all Marvel could do was make good comics and cartoons and drool. Back then though you had the silver screen and the TV that was it, so holding off until you could find a good product to put out wouldn't kill you. Now you have Augmented Reality, Digital Comics, the Internet, TV, Video Games, Movies, streaming video. You don't want to have to keep answering the question as to WHY NOT.

Okay this is getting wordy and until I find a way to Pageanate blogger blogs I'm gonna continue this in part 2, but really DC fans I should think you are starting to see the point.
