Does X-men:Apocalypse spell the end for X-men movies for Singer(throwback from 8/10/16)

It's been 3 weeks, and while people love to blame underperforming comic book movies on Super Hero fatigue I think if we are honest we know it isn't fatigue it's crappy movies. When you make a crappy movie, it doesn't perform.

Deadpool a fan favorite, niche, parody of another comic book character pretty much quadrupled it's production budget.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice a mash up of quite a few Fan favorite stories, that had a ROCKY delivery(if I am being generous) barely made it's money back and is seen as a flop domestically.

Captain America: Civil War has already surpassed BOTH Deadpool(the runaway success) and Batman v Superman(a movie that was pushed up a WHOLE MONTH so they didn't have to directly compete) by crossing the 400 million mark. Deadpool fell just short at like 373 million, Batman v Superman needs a hail mary to even get close before they drop the DVD in 2 months at 336 million.

So what about X-men:Apocalypse, it is coming up on the one month mark, how much has it made 146 million. All 3 movies previously mentioned had crossed the 200 million threshold within 2 weeks. Come this Friday it will have been 4 weeks since Apocalypse was released. I already gave my opinion of this movie, it's the Distinguished mutant. The names you know without the cohesiveness you love, this movie is a shell of itself and what it should have been. Hell Days of Future Past got way closer to the mark and was a hit, and was one of the reasons so many people were hyped for Apocalypse. The problem is most of the initial media released for the movie started to douse said hype, we appreciate the costumes but we also need the powers.

My movies of 2016 pt. 2

As you can see the first half of my list had up and downs it was almost like if I watched a good movie the next one was crap. Now I didn't plan it that way(because NO ONE plans it that way, who wants to waste money on crappy movies), in the second half of the year though I had much better picks granted I didn't hit every movie I planned to hit but I got 3 good ones and one decent one. It was much better than the movie that culminated the last list but it wasn't the high point of the second half of 2016.

2016 also see me hit the drive in again for this first time in years, which redeems the drive in because if I'm not mistake my last drive in movies was The Hulk(yeah yeah get your HOOOOEMYGAWDS out of the way). It was a nice date night with an old friend and while the slush machine was a little bitter we enjoyed the movie, which was

My movies of 2016

I initially tried to write this on Wordpress but it became my "everything I did in 2016" blog, so we gone try this again, over here, with no cursing, EEEEEEVEN though I am gonna be discussing some straight up GARBAGE movies. but lets give it a go shall we. As you know I tend to go to the movies a fair amount, some years and months more than others. I think I hit 10 last year, not all the ones I wanted to or THOUGHT I would see, I hit most of the majors but not all of them. And it was a mixed bag, seriously a mixed bag because there were some good movies, some bad movies, some nice attempts and then some I have no clue what the director was thinking.

When I did this on word press I meant to, actually I'm not sure what I meant to do so now I am gonna to give you a few paragraphs about each movie I watched and if I feel it's getting wordy I will break it up into extra posts. Now personally I feel that my movie watching year started out pretty damn well, as only it could with what we were given the one and only

I think we can all agree, the third movie is always the worst

This tongue in cheek exchange between Scott Summers and Jubilation Lee(yes, I know her ACTUAL full name, not just what they call her. Granted as she is a vampire now I may mumble it under my breath minus Blade's gear) as they walk out of Return of the Jedi may prove to be a bridge to far. It's meant as a shot at X-men: The Last stand, but if these box office numbers hold it may also apply to the THIRD in the period X-men movies. From the initial "Not a reboot" of the X-men movies they have been taking a story arc/graphic novel from famous X-men lore using it as the movies title and then warping the Teams, story lines, and driving forces to try and tell more cohesive and compelling X-men stories. In X-men first class, we were introduced to The Hellfire Club, Emma Frost, and Sebastian Shaw. Well technically RE-introduced to Ms. Frost because for WHATEVER reason she as a young girl was in X-men Origins:Wolverine, with her Diamond powers instead of her telepathy, because:to hell with continuity. First Class took place during the 60's and the Cuban Missile crisis, with Charles Xavier, Eric Lenshurr, and Raven Darkholm amassing a team of potential young mutant hopefuls trying to learn how to use their powers, and Stop Sebastion Shaw from ushering in WW3.

In X-men Days of Future Past we are shown a Dystopian future where due to a decision made by Mystique in the past, all mutants are damn near exterminated. This one is the CLOSEST parallel to the comics, and also the best received. As we all know MOST marvel stories are huge crossovers which basically have characters bumping into each other, causes chaos that someone else has to clean up, read about, or at least be inconvenienced by every day or so. The funny thing is, Fox actually owns the rights to Fantastic Four and COULD have done a more faithful adaptation, but the one they did is fine. Yes they send Wolverine Back instead of Kat(no longer Kitty) Pride, and there is no Rachel Summers, but since Wolverine is as old as dirt it's not a bad idea to use him for your period movie as the Time traveler PLUS it gives you a look into who Logan was while he was staying as far away from other mutants.

And now we have Apocalypse

It's a few days late

As the trailer blog came through on Sunday I guess its to be expected that everything else would be late. Excuses i could make plenty, Memorial day weekend, trying to hit  2nd prestige in Call of Duty:Black Ops III, manning the grill Monday, or even just enjoying the long weekend. All of which are things that I did, but it's done now so *happy dance happy dance*.  One of the issues is that since I was on a blogging hiatus when First Class and Days of Future Past came out I couldn't compare the Movies to the story arcs/graphic novels the titles came from. So of course mentally I tried to do that first so I had to revamp that blog, then I had just spent like an hour an a half writing out that one so after editing it and deciding to break that thought process into 3 pieces. I had to go back and write a review for JUST Apocalypse not the entire soft reboot.

So yeah, I finished it up last night so it will pop sometime this afternoon because meh why the hell not. Also June 6th is almost upon on so it's "Spoiler Review" time, that will probably be on the press. Mainly because I do want to gush about how great a movie civil war was and not have to watch my language. So as always thanks for stopping by, reading, and enjoying my random offerings, pull up a chair, have a cuppa, and gone ahead and speak up, I d't bite much.

The Trailers for X-men: Apocalypse

It was a weekend of a major movie premier so me and HALF of my siblings went, somebody had a baby to watch. Oh well. Now while TWO movies came out Friday night but I only went to one(and as Ninja Turtles comes out next week the other May 27 movies may have to wait til video), and while I don't think I ever owned the T-shirt you know I always Make Mine Marvel. So I went to go see another "new continuity" X-men movie, as you may have heard these seem to be period pieces now. First Class was the 60's, Days was the 70's, and Apocalypse takes place in the 80's.

BUUUUUT before every movie you get trailers to tell you what movie you SHOULD be coming to see in the next few months so that the theaters and Hollywood need them duckets. X-men Apocalypse had 5 trailers, some I had seen Elsewhere, one Marvel Trailer, and a few I had already seen. I know I am a day late with this(I usually do it the day of, but I was really close to prestige 2 on CoD so ahem yeah I did that) but without further ado here we go

Let the games begin

Eikichi has finally seen Civil War, which means we can now talk about it AND just like most people who left the theater, his face showed just how much the MCU is now changed. This was a war for the hearts and minds of the Marvel Cinematic fandom, and honestly nobody won. You watched it, you felt it, and you walked out scarred. There was no victory won in this movie, this was kind of like that "set up comic" you know where the hero is left licking his wounds trying to figure out exactly how bad he underestimated the villain.

I'm not going to say it's goblin throwing Gwen Stacy off the bridge diabolical, especially since this was more fortuitous and opportune but it was still the perfect set up. The dust settles and then the tornado comes in, and not just a dust devil, no an F5. To hell with the house, the foundation, the block, the whole city may be gone when it's all done. And the why, the why is even sympathetic. Nobody has clean hands on this one, not because people didn't try but because nobody is truly perfect and sorrow and suffering can take many forms. One man's grief resolution can be another man's vengeance, spite, or execution. Revenge is a dish best served cold and fire, microwaves, gas or electric ovens have ALL disappeared inn this one. It was hard not spoiling this for Eikichi, you wanted to tell him about it and yet you didn't want to prep him too much. Because you needed to take all these body shots, yes the chin shot was coming but those body shots were meant to build character maybe you were knocked out maybe you weren't but you learn something about yourself after all those body shots. Even that slight twist of fate, the person who wanted to drive in the knife and twist it changed NOT because two peoples mother's had the same name, no because as disrespectful as it sounds the original knife holder was a NOBODY, it wouldn't have mattered at all. No it would have been okay, but it would have been a cheap trick, unsatisfying, unredeemable, but no when that knife is grabbed from the table you completely understand it and you might even cheer for him, forgiveness at the ready.
