All I want is your blood

Selene, Death Dealer former member of a vampire coven and amongst their elite. She is also a lover, to Micheal Corvin a hybrid heir to Corvinus blood line which spawned both Vampire and Werewolf. She is a mother, though robbed of much of the journey of Motherhood due to a werewolf faction actions in Underworld Awakening, to Eve the FIRST pure blood Hybrid ever born. Her life has always been war, from the time her family was killed by Lycans(or so she thought). To her time as a Death Dealer, to trying to protect her love Micheal, and saving her daughter Eve.

Traitor

Survivor

But like all warriors, even immortal ones, the constant state of battle is wearing on her. Her lover Micheal is missing, after the events of Underworld Awakening while she has found her daughter, she lost her love. And because of the seductiveness of Hybrid blood, especially PURE HYBRID blood it is too dangers for mother to be near or with her child so even her child that she barely knows is lost to her. All she has, is running and for a predator running is no way to live.

This movie takes place who knows how long after the events of Awakening, the Lycans have a new leader Marius, and he has them organized, efficient and wiping out vampires across the globe. There are only 2 major sanctuaries left, the East coven and the mythical Northern Coven filled with Vampires supposedly removed from and not fighting in the war. Selene is on the run, Marius conceivably to help make his Lycan hordes stronger is searching for Eve and what better way to find a child than through her mother. What Marius doesn't know is that to protect her daughter, Selene doesn't know, she COULDN'T know for the safety of her child the whereabouts are a total secret, even to the Mighty Death Dealer. If she were still the member of a coven it might be easier to fend off Marius's minions but of course since she killed Viktor(her former Mentor) and Marcus an old powerful Elder(as well as a Corvinas) she is exhiled from all covens as well as wanted by the Council of Elders. The vampire governing body, fortunately for Selene Marius has caused a thinning of the ranks of experienced Death Dealers and Semira(former subordinate to Victor) thinks that with a little nudge, the council MIGHT be willing to give Selene sanctuary and that she could train said rank of raw cadets to help stave off what seems to be the inevitable annihilation by Marius and the stronger, more organized, and lethal Lycan threat.

In hopes of enlisting an older more polished political hand Semira has informed Thomas of her plan to use Selene's skills and experience to fortify their protection. Thomas has a soft spot for Selene after she resurrected his son David during a fight with the Lycan megacorp Antigen, what Thomas does not have is faith in Semira. He has not forgotten who was sent to discover he and Amelia's whereabouts when Viktor became suspicious, and he knows that she ALWAYS has a plan within a plan. For now, he is willing to humor her sanctuary in the well fortified East Coven for Selene and more importantly his son David is too much of a carrot to pass up. In guarded moments though he warns his son of his mistrust, hoping to pass his wariness of Semira's wiles. While David may be the child of a low born vampire he is still a pure blood with half of Thomas's aristocratic stock. Semira has a lacky/boy toy Varga who constantly licks at her heels and apparently answers to her every beck and call, she doesn't treat him as anything more than pretty muscle good for killing and playtime.

My takeaway from this movie was EXHAUSTION, both of Selene and the static ways of the Older Vampires. Yes, they had become rich, wise and powerful the benefit of remaining pretty much Human while using their powers unlike the Lycan who change and become feral. All life needs to evolve and adapt, yes when one is basically immortal there is no rush to change because all you have is time. But when your natural enemy begins to evolve, time is no longer your friend it becomes your noose. The thing with all fortresses is that there are impervious, impregnable, and defensible until they aren't. The ultimate killing machine is the ultimate killing machine until something new comes along.

The rock gave way the to Club
The club gave way to the hatchet
The Hatchet gave way to the spear
The spear the arrow
The arrow the bullet
The bullet joined the Cannon ball
The Cannon ball gave way to the Missile

And there are of course sub classifications of each evolution, and yet the Vampire Council is resistant to it, the old ways a comfortable blanket. Does the mighty Oak fear a single flea, no but if that flea is a termite your hubris may cost you. While I enjoyed this movie I am starting to thing Hollywood has forgotten how to "create and harness Superman." In Underworld Evolution Selene gained the ability to walk in the sun, Micheal became one with his Hybrid form(and of course thus should be Superman. All the strengths of Vampires and Werewolves none of the weaknesses), and yet BOTH had a hard time with mostly regular vampires and Lycans. Yes Marcus and William Corvinus reached Monster movie levels but they were both STILL just a Vampire and a Werewolf. In Awakenings Selene had a hard time with a Lycan on werewolf steroids, was he strong yes but she has the blood of one of the ORIGINAL vampire and Lycan sires, sucked straight from his very veins. She is a damn daywalker now and her blood is so powerful it could even raise ANOTHER vampire from the grave. How you Vampire Jesus and yet can't take down a SLIGHTLY suped up werewolf. Even her daughter Eve, while yes just a young child between 11-14, is freaking SUPERGIRL(or Super Vampire Lycan Hybrid Girl) and yet she was having toe to toe moments.

Dear Hollywood,
Regular Vampire Selene could step off a tall building like it was nothing and not miss a step. Super Selene should be slapping werewolves through buildings and sending them the bill for the nail fill she has to get. Because that's about as much damage as they SHOULD be able to do to her, giving their all and basically chipping her manicure. Stop trying to makes things too hard and overwhelming for the central figure in a movie, sometimes one of the obstacles a overpowered hero should face shouldn't be figuring out how to be strong enough, but figuring out how to keep their power contained so that while they defeat the big bad they don't end up destroying everything they were protecting.
Thanks Primal.
Now yes, Selene does get another Vampire Booster in Blood Wars (it's in the trailer) and technically Marius is different from most other Lycans so I am not complaining as much about their fight(no spoilers), but for all the "your blood is special" and a mixing of "powerful vampire blood A with your blood, and possibly the blood of powerful vampire B" a lot of times the power boosts never seem to kick in nor be monumental enough to be worth the effort. Oh and by the way, there is a moment when they make a big deal about Varga having 40 confirmed Lycan kills, like Selene doesn't kill that many before the credits roll. Is that a new stat or something, cause our Selene does nothing but crack Lycan skulls I could have sworn she killed 60 or 70 in UNDERWORLD. Bruh SAT down, yes past tense SAT down cause your but should already be in the chair popping off about 40 kills when she been killing both Vampires and Lycans for all of 3 movies now(remember in 4 technically that wasn't Selene until the end). Now granted for a movie with a budget of 35 million it is doing great, it's actually surprising with how often they have Vampires turn to dust, Lycans grow, those weird Albino Vampires, Selene's new flash powers, the UV bullets, and all the silver weapons and bullet time actions the series is known for yet it just had a 35 million dollar budget. I am also gonna be a little nitpicky about them not using Eve a lot in the movie, again you have Supergirl use her. It would have been cool to see how a Hybrid child had developed. There are a few twists and unexpected turns in this movie, I honestly thought I was going to see the end of the franchise but as they brought it in for the credits I realized they left enough questions and motivational room to do at least 1 or 2 more(that I hope include MORE Eve/Hybrid mayhem). If you like fangs and fur flying Underworld Blood Wars is a good hour and a half of popcorn munching fun, yes it has a story, no it's not original, but it is well done. Yes there are some things you can nitpick(not the CGI it's pretty good), but it is an enjoyable story and it settles in nicely to the Underworld experience(a lot better than Underworld 3, I understand the concept but it was kind of disjointed in the overall swing of things).

As always feel free to comment, like, and come back for more. Drinks are on the house, the popcorn is almost ready, I'm sitting down with my blue and red, with a hot dog(no chili).
